speed kills

i was reading an article yesterday in yahoo news about some knucklehead doing 170 mph on a crotch rocket. well his speed was verified by a cop who undoubtedly was going as fast or close to it to try and get an accurate clocking of his speed. we have 2 problems here. one is the first idiot breaking the law , and second is the second idiot trying to enforce the law. both high on adrenaline, and both on public streets as in this case i-87 below albany, new york. i know exactly where it is, as i have been there. not quite a straight stretch anywhere.
it mentions in the article about how the arresting officer pursued the bike which at one point was caught up in traffic. now at this point i have to say there were people on the road and this yahoo of a cop knew that as he just said so. and don't they all have dash cams they take pictures of donut shop parking lots , most of the day. well they would have enough evidence to put 2 plus 2 together and assume it is same guy in court . or at least be able to haul the bikes owner in and let him say who was on bike . anyhow the guy frees himself of traffic and is clocked again by another patrolman at 170 again. eventually with enough idiots in police cars chasing this guy they finally catch him. and how many peoples lives were at risk as they had this high speed chase.
this goes on daily and is becoming a bigger problem all the time. we have had numerous wrecks where law enforcement has been chasing people and them selves have taken out innocent bystanders . why?
why is it necessary to fuel this road rage attitude to try to take this person off the road in high speed pursuit when we have technology available to do the job for us. and what have we accomplished when it is all said and done. some guy who will get a public defender because he spends way to much money on ninja bikes to have anything. the police have the attitude that it is necessary to rid society of this evil person, and also to fortify their existence. the cops nearly choked on their donuts when this one flew by their radars. it was a challenge to their authority and they had no choice but to bring the bad guy in.
chances are if there was no pursuit the guy would have cracked it open and scared the shit out of himself and backed off as death is not pretty when you are facing it at 170 mph. but if you have a cop chasing you you have no time to think and know they have nothing that can catch you and you may have a chance of out running them. so you go and go fast , and you know people are out there but you are oblivious to danger as you think if you get by with this you might change. chances are you wont. it is your nature to push the envelope and by chance someday you might live to tell your grand  kids about it , but chances are you will screw up at 170 mph and the last thing going through your mind will be your butthole as roll down the hard pavement. living through a tumble like that might at best get you a feeding tube for months and or maybe you will finally get to use your donor card.
why does any vehicle go over 80 mph, except ambulances and patrol cars. increasingly our roads are becoming our killing fields despite all the modern safety restraints. we have the technology to limit speed  so why dont we use it. because most of us are speed demons ourselves and push the envelope. and who would buy a car with a top end of 80 mph. speed is for racetracks and not for our roads where we drive on a daily basis. you can buy cars that go 140 mph routinely but is that what the public in general needs. i thought that driving is a privilege and not a right. if so why hasnt the federal government done anything to limit the speed on vehicles. we are in a period of high gas prices , and fuel efficiency sucks at 170 mph. so why is it necessary?  and safety is a concern at excessive speeds of 170 mph , as one hardly has time to text and drive at same time. 80 years ago we hardly had a vehicle that went 60 mph let alone 170 , so are we worse today than we were years ago?
and you never know when some innocent creature like a dog , cat , or even a squirrel will run out in front of you at 170 mph they would take you out. but then nature has a way of leveling the playing field.

couldn't agree more. I have questioned this myself many times.
